How we estimate insulation
Insulation is measured by assembly: exterior walls, interior acoustic walls, attics, roofs, floors over unconditioned space and foundation walls. Each assembly carries the R-value or thickness required by the drawings or specifications.
Air barriers, vapor retarders and firestopping are listed separately when they are part of the insulation scope, so they do not get missed between trades.
What we measure
- Fiberglass and mineral wool batts
- Blown-in cellulose and loose-fill
- Open- and closed-cell spray foam
- Rigid board and continuous insulation
- Acoustic insulation in partitions
- Vapor retarders and air barrier membranes
What to send us
- Wall, roof and floor sections with R-values
- Partition types for acoustic insulation
- Energy code compliance report, if available
- Specifications for insulation products
What you receive
- Area by assembly and R-value or thickness
- Material quantities by product
- Material and labor cost breakdown
- Assumptions and exclusions
The exact contents and format are agreed when we quote the estimate.
Units of measure
- United States and Canada
- SF at stated R-value, board feet for spray foam
- United Kingdom (and metric projects)
- m² at stated R or U-value, m³ for spray foam
