How we estimate concrete
A concrete estimate is driven by volumes, reinforcement weights and formwork area. We measure each element separately — footings, grade beams, foundation walls, slabs on grade, elevated decks, columns and site concrete — so the totals trace back to specific details on the drawings.
Reinforcement is taken off from the structural schedules and typical details, including laps and accessories where they are shown. Placement method, pump requirements and finishing are listed as assumptions so you can adjust them to your means and methods.
What we measure
- Footings, pile caps, grade beams and foundation walls
- Slabs on grade, elevated slabs and topping slabs
- Rebar and welded wire reinforcement by size and element
- Formwork contact area and edge forms
- Vapor retarders, sub-base and under-slab insulation where specified
- Site concrete: curbs, sidewalks, pads and paving
What to send us
- Foundation and structural plans with sections and details
- Structural general notes and reinforcement schedules
- Geotechnical report, if it affects footing sizes or sub-base
- Specifications for mix strengths, finishes and curing
What you receive
- Quantity takeoff by element and pour type
- Reinforcement takeoff by bar size
- Material, labor and equipment cost breakdown
- Marked-up drawings showing measured areas
- List of assumptions and exclusions
The exact contents and format are agreed when we quote the estimate.
Units of measure
- United States and Canada
- Cubic yards (CY), square feet (SF), pounds or tons of rebar
- United Kingdom (and metric projects)
- Cubic metres (m³), square metres (m²), tonnes of rebar
